Lymm Festival Trail Races on Sunday 9 July

Run, run, as fast as you can!

  • Lymm Festival Trail Races on Sunday 9 July
  • Charity family event in its sixth year
  • Organisers Lymm Runners to raise money in memory of a member who passed away

FAMILY FUN, woodland magic, medals and prizes are all in the running at this year’s Lymm Festival Trail Races on Sunday 9 July.

This lively annual event, organised by Lymm Runners, is now in its sixth year and takes place on the playing fields at Lymm High School.

Catch the Gingerbread Man

The first race – a fun run for children – and is a mile (1.6k) long pursuit of the real Gingerbread Man who is making a rare celebrity appearance.

Lymm Runner and race director Mark Hamill said: “After Gingerbread Man was caught last year, he has spent his whole time in a secret training camp and promises that no one will catch him this time. Will you prove him wrong? The course goes the whole way around the school playing fields, so there will be plenty of space to cheer on all the runners!”

Fun runners and their adult helpers are encouraged to dress up as woodland animals with prizes for the best-dressed boy and girl. All young runners will receive a medal and a small treat at the end of the race. All profits for this race will go to the Woodland Trust.

5k and 10k races

Following the Fun Run, the 5k and 10k races continue the woodland theme by taking runners on a circuit of Helsdale and Spud Woods. While there are no fancy dress prizes as part of these races, there will be goody bags for all competitors and awards for senior and junior winners.

Remembering Sophie

This year, all profits from the 5k and 10k races will be shared equally between The Christie and Beating Bowel Cancer* in memory of Lymm Runners member Sophie Womack who sadly passed away earlier this year, at the age of 33, after a brave battle with cancer.

Lymm Runner s Co-Chair Lynn Moseley said: “Sophie inspired many of her friends and family with her running and she particularly enjoyed taking part in the festival trail races in Lymm, so we all felt this was a fitting tribute.”
